I first fell in love with photography when I was seven years old and living in Rome, surrounded by sights surprising, beautiful, and strange to a kid from Rochester, Minnesota. I loved to write then, as I do now, but words failed me when it came to capturing and understanding my new city. Photographs suited the challenge better and more naturally, and some of the pictures I took of Rome with my sky-blue plastic camera remain among my favorites.

Rome continues to be one of my favorite muses. But I also love exploring Minneapolis and other cities through the lens. Wherever I am and whatever my subject, I strive to create images that are elegant and elemental. I hope that my photographs invite viewers to enter into a fleeting moment, stilled, and to write part of the story for themselves.
