Greg Lecker

Greg Lecker’s art transports viewers to settings filled with motion & emotion. Working from direct observation as well as from creative writing and photographic references he assembles while studying the natural world, Greg wields brush, palette knife, his gloved hands, and other tools in response to changing light, weather, and mood. A painter who loves his medium (oil paint), he celebrates its application especially in his plein air work, which has been described as energetic chaos up close; then coming together as confidently rendered light & objects when viewed from a distance. Greg Lecker is a visual artist who paints primarily in oil in both the studio and outdoors, on location (plein air). The majority of the small works in this exhibit were painted at the Wisconsin and Minnesota scenes depicted in these paintings.

Of particular interest to Lecker is an evolving body of work that he has titled “Watershed“. In his subjects of water he explores concepts ranging from dismissal, disturbance, and discoloration through discovery and recovery to rebirth, rejuvenation and reunion. Greg began this investigation during recent artist residencies at Banfill-Locke Center for the Arts (Fridley, MN) and through the Science Museum of Minnesota at Pine Needles on the St. Croix River (Marine, MN; St. Croix Watershed Research Station).
