About the Rogue Buddha Gallery
The Rogue Buddha Gallery, now in it’s 20th year,  offers exquisite art with a penchant for pop surrealism, magical realism and the wondrous from world renowned artists to local rising stars. All exhibition programming, decor and “items of interest” are based upon the artwork, inspirations and curiosities of gallery owner and artist, Nicholas Harper. Since 1999 Harper’s distinctive taste and voice has offered our guests a vision and visual experience unavailable elsewhere, making the Rogue Buddha not just unique, but truly a one of a kind experience.

About Nicholas Harper
I refer to my paintings as contemporary icons.  While heavily influenced by magical realism literature and authors such as Gabriel Garcia Marquez, my paintings are grounded in traditional and classical painting techniques. While focusing primarily on the  portrait and female figure, it is my intention to create works that transcend mere portraiture (the representation of a certain person in a specific place and in a specific time) and decoration and create works that are elevated to the status of symbol and allegory with the potential for archetypal storytelling.  In so doing, it is my intention to create artwork that becomes a central focal point, wherever it is displayed, in the hopes that it become an integral part of the viewers daily life and experience both in terms of beauty and that of contemplation, not unlike the intention behind traditional Russian and Byzantine iconography. My studio is located in the back of the Rogue Buddha Gallery and is accessible year round during normal gallery hours as well as by appointment. I look forward to sharing my work with you, both here and elsewhere online, as well as in person in my studio.  Cheers!
